Lemesos (Limassol) is the second largest city on the island, a city that shines with energy and "joie de vivre". Limassol is located 35 minutes from both Larnaca International Airport and Pafos Airport, between the two ancient archaeological sites of Amathus and Kourion. It is the main port of the island, the center of the wine industry and a holiday resort.
Under the magnificent backdrop of the Troodos mountain range, the tourist area of the city stretches along the coast and is full of hotels and restaurants, pubs and night clubs. A nice walk extends over a large area of the coast. Behind the promenade is the busy St Andrews street, with small shops offering local jewelry, souvenirs and crafts. At the end of the beautiful promenade (Molos) you will find the Limassol Marina which combines elegant residences and a marina with an inviting mix of restaurants and shops.
Makarios Avenue, in the city center of Limassol, offers traditional shops together with prestigious boutiques, designer outlets and showrooms, as well as small shops of all kinds.
It is a destination with sandy beaches and high-level accommodation, professional and financial services, countless activities and entertainment venues. The inhabitants of Limassol have a reputation for fun-loving and are very proud to host and organize some of the most famous festivals on the island, such as the annual Wine Festival in September, when various wineries offer free samples of their products, and the Carnival in February with the great parade of masked floats.
Its unique identity is based on its rich history spanning two ancient city realms: Amathus to the east and Kourion to the west, two of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus.
In the old town, the medieval castle near the fishing port was the place that hosted the royal wedding, in the Middle Ages, between Richard the Lionheart and Berengaria of Navarre.
Limassol district offers all the attractions of a seaside town with beaches, water sports and diving, as well as family attractions such as water parks and the zoo. The restaurants offer a full choice of international food and there are many excellent local tavernas serving Cypriot specialties. The nightlife is lively with a wide choice of clubs, wine bars, pubs and discos.
